Minions: The Rise of Gru – Trailer
A loud, ridiculous ride with 70s flair, kung-fu gags, and silly gadgets. The sound design is exaggerated on purpose to match the chaos. Nothing is real, everything’s fun. It’s a brain-reset kind of trailer, where style and nonsense go hand in hand.
For this trailer I handled sound design and audio post. The sound is pure chaos, but it’s controlled chaos. Everything is exaggerated on purpose, every footstep, gadget, and ridiculous little Minion noise. It’s slapstick in audio form. You don’t just see the jokes, you hear them landing half a second before they hit.
The voices are a huge part of it. The Minions babble in a made-up language that means nothing, yet somehow you understand them. The sound design treats that gibberish like real dialogue. You still get tone, attitude, and rhythm, even without words. That’s not random noise. That’s timing and confidence.
The mix is clean, punchy, and almost musical. Explosions sound funny, not dangerous. Impacts bounce instead of hurt. Even silence becomes part of the joke. Everything stops for half a second, then something absurd crashes in. It’s comedy timing built out of sound.
You don’t have to know anything about audio to feel it. Without sound it would just be weird yellow blobs. With it, you get a small, fast, ridiculous action movie that somehow works perfectly.
