The story
I was hired to produce this podcast for Stan Faryna while he was in Bucharest. We also recorded a few episodes remotely after he returned to the US. He told me this was a gift, for the world and especially for his son, something that might guide or comfort others.
Stan came to me and asked if I’d help him record some stories he’d written, moments from his life that stuck with him. He called them “audio memories.” We recorded one a week for a few months, then selected a handful and built a playlist.
He was an amazing man who did a lot with his life. He helped people, mentored teams, and pushed artists and developers to keep going. He loved art, music, digital design, sculpture, games, and he loved nurturing people who made those things.
Stan was also a good friend and a big influence in my life and career. He had a calm presence, faith, a way of listening, and always a thought worth hearing. This podcast meant a lot to him, and making it together meant a lot to me. We’d sit and talk for hours. He’d write something, read it to me, ask what I thought, then go back and fine-tune it before recording. I’m proud I got to be part of that process.
