The story
Morandi is Marius’s music project with Randi as lead voice. Of course I jumped in to help and be part of the production alongside him. Marius made the initial hook and beat, and Randi came in with the lyrics idea. The melody was beautiful, but it felt like something was missing. Marius thought maybe it needed a second voice.
At the time, Marius was a juror on The Voice in Romania and had just discovered Ioana Ignat—an incredible young artist with a unique tone. I immediately suggested her. She had this mix of beauty and raspiness in her voice that felt like exactly what the song needed. Marius agreed, and I went to record a few parts with her.
The result speaks for itself. The song became a success and marked Ioana Ignat’s first major release and her first international track. Not long after, she became a well-known artist in her own right.
I get why Morandi has such a loyal audience. Working with them, I’ve seen it firsthand. Randi is a great songwriter and top-liner, and Marius is like a Dr. Beat. He hears what others might miss and finds the gold buried deep in a song. When those two are in the studio together, amazing things happen.
